O'Connor began at [Rockmount, the first club of Roy Keane, Cork City FC signed O'Connor in February 2008. He made his debut for Cork City FC in the 3–1 away win against Galway United FC on 4 April 2008. In his first season he was deployed as an impact sub but was rarely used, usually only playing in League Cup or the lower rounds of the FAI Cup. With the likes of John O'Flynn, Dave Mooney and Denis Behan ahead of him in the pecking order, it was a frustrating season for the Corkman. However with the sale of Mooney and O'Flynn he began to appear more regularly alongside Tim Kiely and Behan. However he failed to hit the back of the net in that time. In the 2008 season played 13 games.
He signed another one year contract with City for the 2009 season. However, once again he found himself warming the bench and is yet to play a full game this season for the Rebel Army. As of September, O Connor had returned to Rockmount AFC in the Beamish Stout Munster Senior League
